Howard LeFevre may have tamed the Licking River ![]() Many accomplishments of Howard LeFevre, who died June 30, 2008, were mentioned in Advocate articles and in photographs. One of the most significant was omitted, however. Howard was among the members of the Rising River Association who planted a totem pole in front of his trucking headquarters on Everett Avenue. If I'm not mistaken, that area never flooded again after the erection of this pole. And if that's the case, then Howard might also be credited with taming the mighty Licking River. I met Howard for the first time when I was assigned as an Advocate photographer to cover the unveiling of this pole. Somewhere I have a clipping or a print, but I haven't found it yet. Just behind the totem pole as seen from the street is Howard's parking place. |
