![]() The Licking County Children's Home held a special place in the collective heart of Newark and the newspaper that reported on its activities before the institution closed. I went there on several photographic assignments to shoot photos of the special programs for children and they were always happy scenes. The kids were well-cared for and their foster mom and pop did a good job under difficult conditions, as far as I could tell. Still, it seemed to me that to spend one's childhood in an institution, no matter how hard the community tried to make it otherwise, would be a lonely journey at best. This photo captures that aspect, I think, of the Children's Home. It was a crowded place that offered little or no privacy, yet it was no cure for loneliness. |
