Nothing was beneath us

this photo
represent the core of the community's power structure back in those
days and I think many long-time residents will recognize most of them,
even 40-some years later. That the Advocate was on the cutting edge of corn is exemplified in this incredibly juvenile concept. Nothing was beneath us. Frank Spencer Jr. who is hanging from a nail upside down at top right was the editor and he really got off on this kind of stuff. Surprisingly, there was never a reader revolt, nor did the subjects themselves seem to mind. In its defense, just ask how else might these folks have been photographed? Well, how about sitting around that table, staring blankly and smiling at a piece of paper? How about 12 head shots? At least this has humor and impact and I don't think any reader would pass over it without reading the explanation. So maybe that makes it a good shot. Or not. Replay To Page One |
